Remembrance Day Poster Challenge
Remembrance Day is a major event at Crescent Collegiate. Many people are involved in organizing the ceremony. The art classes create a Remembrance Day poster each year as part of the course requirements, and some choose to submit their work in the Remembrance Day Poster Contest through the Royal Canadian Legion. First place provincial winners of this contest win a free trip to Beaumont Hamel to witness the Memorial Day ceremonies commemorating Newfoundland's involvement in World War I.
Since Crescent opened its doors in 2000, eleven students have won first place in the province and there have been numerous second and third place winners as well. All completed student Remembrance Day art is displayed during the Remembrance Day Ceremonies. Posters are always due on November 3rd. This allows time to prepare for the Remembrance Day display, including preparation of name tags that will indicate the students' names, grade and material used in the creation of the work. Although only the senior high students are required to do the assignment as required evaluation piece, the contest is open to all junior high grade levels, as well as students who may have taken art in a previous year but are not currently enrolled in the art program.
On this page, students will find links to the various sites that may help in the development of their art work.
